EMW 17

It feels like we see each other too often.

It had only been two days since Cerden called me after the banquet. Since we shared the same bed, it was the first time I was seeing him again.

If possible, I would prefer to see him about once a week, or maybe just once a month.

That day felt like too long. The emptiness I felt when I woke up alone in bed was overwhelming.

‘Am I crazy? Did I really just sleep?’

Thinking about whether I had drooled without realizing it made me feel a wave of embarrassment again. I’m not usually like this, but I become strange when I get entangled with Cerden.

So, it must be Cerden’s fault. That’s right, isn’t it?

Anyway, I had been wanting to avoid Cerden for a while, but here I was, receiving a message from him just two days later.

I heard there were guests attending dinner. My pace slowed down.

“Your Highness. You must hurry. You’re late. They say the meal is already prepared.”

Cherryna urged me. When I glanced at Cherryna, I saw her exchanging meaningful glances with Rosie. I could guess their intention.

They must have gotten some free time.

I wouldn’t know the identity of the guests until after the banquet.

I barely swallowed a sigh.

Cerden spoke with a pleasant smile on his face. He looked annoyingly happy.

“This is Evelyn. My wife, who appeared in my life without me even realizing it.”

“Do you have to say it like that…?”

The man sighed. Then he greeted me with a smile.

“Hello, Your Highness, the Crown Princess.”

Wow. He was like a sculpted handsome man. Did my eyes just sparkle?

If Cerden was a handsome man like Jo In-sung, then this one was a master, I suppose?

In any case, both of them were definitely handsome.

I also liked Cerden’s unwavering gaze, which didn’t waver even when he said something ridiculous.

“I am Dimitor Roger.”

Dimitor? I feel like I’ve heard that name somewhere.

“And this is Yulia Roger, my wife. And this is…”

My gaze turned to the small child. He was already a boy with a promising future. A completed beauty, perhaps? How old was he? Seven years old?

He was really good-looking. Is this what they mean by a sprout that’s different from the rest? He was definitely a bright and beautiful sprout from the start!

If this were Korea, he would have been a child model dominating the industry.

“Rodrik Roger. He’s my 6-year-old son, Your Highness.”

Rodrik, even his name is as handsome as… wait a minute? Rodrik?

My eyes nearly popped out. I was serious.

I swallowed hard. Rodrik Roger. That was the name of the Male protagonist. Is the Male protagonist appearing here?

Now that I think about it, I remember reading that Cerden was an old friend of the Male protagonist’s biological father. Before everything went wrong, when Cerden lost everything and betrayed and killed his friend.

“Say hello, Rodrik.”

“Hello, Your Highness, the Crown Prince, and Your Highness. I am Rodrik.”

I greeted the handsome boy who bowed his head deeply in my mind.

Hello, protagonist…

Nice to meet you.

As I hesitated, Cerden gently nudged my back.

“Evelyn, go play over there. You have to be nice to your friends. Got it?”

What, you little brat? I barely held back the curse that almost slipped out.

Friends, huh? But I couldn’t say anything back. I smiled brightly at the Male protagonist.

“Shall we go play house over there? I’m Evelyn, and I’m, I’m five years old!”

I stuttered without realizing it. The Male protagonist nodded seriously. Then he spoke with a straight and proper face.

“Nice to meet you. I’ll play with you. Let’s go over there.”

Oh, big brother… ah, this is really driving me crazy.

Describe the feelings of being reincarnated into a 22-year-old woman with a 6-year-old brother. That’s exactly me.

As I held the Male protagonist’s hand, I had no choice but to follow him.

Since it was a nice season, the banquet was set up outdoors, and while the adults were having serious conversations, the children spread out a mat and played house.

With the big brother.

“Okay, dear. Ah, let’s do this.”

In this game, my role was the mother, and Rodrik was the father. The wooden doll Rodrik brought was our child.

“Ah, ah…”

I opened my mouth and trembled my lips.

Think of the eyes watching, Evelyn. You have to hold it in, Evelyn. You are an actress!

“Yum, yum. It’s really delicious, dear. Mmm, our baby is delicious too?”

“You’re really good at playing house…”

I muttered without realizing it. Rodrik answered nonchalantly.

“I have a younger sister, so we always play together. Come over to our house next time, and we can play.”

Sure, thank you. I was invited by a 6-year-old big brother. I cursed Cerden for leading me into this situation and continued playing house with the Male protagonist. With side dishes made from crushed grass and rice made from stones.

I will take my revenge. I will definitely take my revenge.

Cerden glanced at Rodrik and Evelyn, who were happily playing together. From this angle, it was really hard to tell them apart. Without any reward for setting up this gathering, Evelyn was calmly playing house.

‘When will you reveal yourself?’

If I were to snatch her before she revealed herself, she would run away. Cerden was waiting for Evelyn to reveal herself first.

Noticing that Yulia was only looking at Evelyn, she cautiously asked Cerden.

“…Are you really unwell?”

Yulia spoke with a worried expression.

“…Huh. Are you okay?”

Cerden glanced at Dimitor. He had a genuinely worried look on his face.

Dimitor was a steadfast and strong knight, someone he could rely on, and the only friend with whom he could show his true feelings.

The only friend who understood and recognized Cerden in this lonely world.

Cerden wiped away all the smiles from his face and muttered coldly.

“When I heard that my wife, who appeared in my life without me realizing it, was a fool from Spelman, I was dumbfounded. Haha, it turns out the Emperor of this empire isn’t lying about Spelman.”

“Cerden.”

Cerden’s eyes glinted coldly. The Emperor had succumbed to money, and the Empress was powerless.

That was why Duke Spelman ruled as the sky above the sky. At least it was better when Cerden was guarding the imperial palace.

Cerden was someone who could not be swayed by anything.

Cerden felt suffocated in this imperial palace. Being here felt like his whole body was being crushed. Too many people depended on him and leaned on him.

The Emperor, who was obsessed with gambling and women, had long since abandoned his duties, and the Empress was weak. His younger sister was smart, but she was still someone he had to protect.

Cerden was alone every moment, enduring and holding everything in.

And now, Evelyn was added to that.

Cerden grasped his cup tightly.

“…She’s a pitiful person, Cerden.”

Yulia let out a light sigh. Her gaze was fixed on Evelyn. Cerden followed Yulia’s gaze and chuckled softly. A pitiful person, huh?

“Do you really think so?”

“I heard she had a fever when she was ten. The doctors all shook their heads. The Spelman young lord openly ignored my sister, and Duke Spelman pretended to be devoted to my daughter but never took her out.”

Yulia continued in a low voice.

“She’s someone who has lived a pitiful life, trapped. Even being called the shame of Spelman, she doesn’t realize it’s an insult directed at her. Cerden, Your Highness is also just being used by Spelman.”

Yulia spoke with clear and transparent eyes.

Yulia and Dimitor were certainly virtuous people. They believed in and cherished what was apparent rather than suspecting others.

But Cerden was completely the opposite.

Cerden turned his cold gaze back to Evelyn and Rodrik.

“Big brother! I don’t want to play house anymore! Let’s climb trees. Do you know how to climb trees?”

“Of course. Should I teach you?”

Rodrik said solemnly.

“Yeah, big brother! Evelyn will also become a cool adult who can climb trees!”

Is she innocent? Or is she cunning? Watching Evelyn, who calls a boy much younger than her ‘big brother’ so easily, made me chuckle.

It was absurd how seriously she was taking this whole situation.

That made it even more suspicious.

As Cerden watched Evelyn and Rodrik climbing trees, his eyes sparkled.

Evelyn was gracefully navigating every moment. It was as if she had let go of her pride and shame.

What on earth is Evelyn gaining from going this far?

A mere facade of being the Empress?

A lofty power?

Or is what that woman is aiming for Cerden’s life? The sharpness of my thoughts intensified. Then I recalled the image of Evelyn, who had fallen asleep in my arms.

That small, innocent face, snoring while wrapped up in a blanket.

Cerden brushed his hair back.

“Ha.”

Really, I genuinely don’t understand. About that woman.

Evelyn was the only enigma thrown into Cerden’s life, which had always had clear answers.
